Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.
Isaiah 40:28 NIV
“Oh for a thousand tongues to sing the great Redeemer’s praise!!!” He isn’t only able, but He gave us one of the most precious blessings we could ever receive–redemption, salvation, and the assurance that we’re sure of our eternal existence in His presence. Oh what peace knowing that we don’t have to wait until we’re in the presence of God for us to know whether we’ll spend eternity with Him–in pure love, joy, peace, splendor, and beauty–or if we’ll spend eternity apart from Him–in deepest, indescribable agony. That’s why our precious Lord Jesus was quick to point out that having our names written in the Book of Life is a much greater reason for rejoicing than having authority over demonic forces.
We’re free from perishing and from destruction because our wonderful God reveals essential life-saving truths to us. Lack of knowledge is often a reason why people are destroyed. But our God invites us to the world of knowledge, insight, and understanding. It’s because our God isn’t malicious; He’s good. He doesn’t want to hurt us; He wants to heal us. He doesn’t want us lacking; He wants us provided for. And a very reassuring truth about it is that not only is He willing and desiring for our best. He is able.
He’s greater than great. And that isn’t just some kind of Christian cliché we “throw” so flippantly out there. It’s a colossal truth. Why are we so confident that God can and will be true to His promise of supplying all our needs? It’s because He can and He will. But what about if the earth runs out of water, land space, food, energy, fuel, and other necessities of life? We don’t worry; our God is the great Creator, and He’s not dependent on other suppliers for the parts needed. Remember: “creatio ex nihilo;” God created everything out of nothing. And for some (we would say) crazy or odd reasons, some pessimists may respond with: “But what if we ‘run out’ of God?” Of course we lovingly smile at that honest and serious concern by some. It isn’t ever a question to us because God is from everlasting to everlasting. He is God, will always be God, and will always exist.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but God won’t. In fact, we too will partake of the everlasting future. Not all will. Yes, there’s some kind of “depletion” happening in creation. Consider that as something like “wear and tear.” And even those that are not fully exhausted or depleted, there will be a day when God replaces everything with a new heaven and a new earth. Again, the concern: “Will God not be depleted?” Again: no worries. Our God is the ultimate Source of power. He never grows tired or weary. Yes, with all our needs, prayers, and requests, we will never exhaust Him and His resources. HE IS THE RESOURCE AND HE IS INFINITE.
Of course He doesn’t always do things our way. And praise God for that. In fact, He mostly dosen’t do things our way. And praise God more for that. He always does best, and we get to have a taste of the best because of Him. We’ve learned of some people who quickly quip: “Your God is confusing; He’s so hard to understand.” We understand the sentiment, and we pray for them to understand. The truths we need to know about God, we can know. But our inability to fully comprehend God leads us to believing Him more than rejecting Him. Why so? It’s because it’s another proof of His divinity and greatness. The greatness of creation, the greatness of His wisdom, the greatness of His ways draw us more to–not push us away from–Him–His reality.
All we have to do is see how infinitesimal–how insignificantly invisible we are in the context of the universe, and we will understand how reasonable it is that we can’t fully know everything there is to know about God. We have hardly scratched all available information about the universe; God is incalculably way much bigger than the universe.
God is real; God is great. Praise Him; He’s good; He’s understanding; He’s loving; He cares, and He’s involved in our lives. Thank God.
Yes; thank you Dad.
