God’s Surprising Ways

Habakkuk 1:5   (KJV)   5 Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you.

Our God is a sovereign God. He is a creative God. He’s not bound to anything or anyone, not even to the ways He’s done things in the past. In fact, the Lord will do something new Habakkuk 1.5 - God's Surprising Waysin our nations, something wonderful and marvelous. It will be so amazing that it will be so hard to believe if we are told about it now.

Godlessness pervades our nations. We find it in every corner and facet of society. Lies, deception, and fake news are everywhere. But our just and loving God don’t just sit idly by. He won’t allow the righteous to be caught in insidious plots and deadly traps of the enemy.

The wicked trusts in their own devices; they glory in their ability to deceive; they don’t realize that God watches over His people. They march boldy brandishing their banner of evil while gleefully setting up the righteous for a fall, not realizing that they’ll be caught in their own snares. The harm they plan for God’s people will boomerang to them.

God, our heavenly Father Who created this big, vast, inscrutable universe surprises His enemies. They can’t predict how He does things. We as His people, though surrounded by evil, live in peace. Our confidence is in the LORD. We’ve tasted and seen that the LORD is good. He never leaves us defenseless. We may not be sure as to the ways He delivers us, but we’re sure He always delivers us.

Even though lawlessness may exponentially increase, even though our economy may suddenly collapse, even though our freedom may be greatly threatened, even though God’s people are constantly harassed, we will neither fear nor be dismayed. We will find our joy and our peace in the God of our provision and protection. He is our strength; He establishes our steps. After all is said and done, everyone will recognize: God is God. He continually governs in the affairs of man. He rules over all nations. The lives of kings and queens, presidents and rulers are in His hands. Every knee will bow, and every eye will see: He is Lord. So yes; we’re at peace—always ready to be amazed by our Father’s new yet always astonishing interventions.

New Things Waiting

Isaiah 48:6   (KJV)   Thou hast heard, see all this; and will not ye declare it? I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou didst not know them.

God isn’t finished with us yet. His callings are irrevocable; He doesn’t change His mind about them, but it doesn’t mean God is stuck with them when it comes to His dealings Isaiah 48.6 - New Things Awaitingwith us. He continues to show us new things—things we don’t have clues about.

We have a very creative God; He Is That He Is. He’s an ever present God. He’s not and will never be stuck in the past. He doesn’t disclose or pour out everything He has for us all at once; otherwise, we’ll be overwhelmed; we may break or explode. He reveals them, slowly, in His perfect timing.

King Solomon wrote: “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). This may seem like a contradiction but it isn’t. What God slowly unveils to us may not be new “under the sun” but they may be new to us. I love the fact that our Father has got everything already covered. New discoveries and inventions may have people’s names attached to them, but the Lord really is the ultimate Source of everything. People discover what they discover because they are there to discover. People succeed in their inventions because working and consistent laws are already in place; God gives the ideas; God gives the understanding.

So we faithfully live out the truths we already know. We’re fully content. But contentment and stagnation aren’t the same. We keep walking—forward in our journey as His children—in contentment and rest, always expecting new things from the throne room of our God and Father. It doesn’t matter how old we are; we’re still alive. This means our heavenly Father still has new things awaiting us—one layer after the other. We’re excited.

New Heavens and New Earth

Isaiah 65.17 - New Heavens and New Earth - 1Isaiah 65:17   (KJV)   17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

Our God, He Who created the heavens and the earth will one day create new ones; both will be gloriously different. It will be a creation “untouched” by sin, sickness, poverty, fear, hatred, and death. Everything in this present creation that pull people away, everything people trade for the most awesome Being there is, all will be forgotten. What awaits us is a place of unimaginable beauty, wonder, and splendor. It’s a place of purest love, overflowing joy, and absolute peace. Please consider: the most expensive places on earth, the best resorts, the most tranquil vacation homes, the most jaw-dropping houses—is there anything that even comes close to what awaits those who truly love God?

We as His people taste a small portion of the glory that waits. Poverty is rampant, but we’re not in want. Loneliness and shame abounds, but we’re blessed and bold. There are tears and despair, but our hearts are filled with joyful songs. Our God Who we will spend glorious eternity with is with us—in us—now—hearing us, speaking to us, answering our prayers. God sits enthroned on High; heaven is His throne and earth is His footstool; we can never build a place big enough to house Him, but He resides in us; He gave our bodies the highest honor by making us His temples.

This world doesn’t entice us. Why? Because our hearts are set on a much greater version—a place where chaos and wars and rebellions are no longer found. Holiness and righteousness are its hallmarks. There will not be a presence of evil there. It will be a place of resplendent purity and indescribable beauty. There will be no darkness there, no foul smell, no unpleasant sight, no revenge, no evil intents, no cursing, no persecution. The greatest thing this world system offers, everything godless people clamor for and passionately pursue, is trash compared to the real treasure that will be enjoyed by those who pursue God. New heavens and new earth—that’s our real home; there’s our real citizenship.
